A Mississippi man has been killed in what police call a "terrible accident" at the Vestas wind tower factory in Pueblo. The Pueblo County Coroner has identified the man as John Keel, 21.
Sgt. Eric Bravo with the Pueblo Police Department says Keel was helping crews load towers on a train car--when he got pinned between a forklift and the train car. The forklift driver told police he didn't see Keel.
Keel was rushed to St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, but died. "From what we can determine it's an industrial accident," said Sgt. Eric Bravo. "Criminally we're not looking at anything. Our reports will be sent to the District Attorney's office to review them but at this point it doesn't look like anything more than a terrible accident," he added.
Vestas released the following statement regarding Keel's death:
On Wednesday, October 27, an employee of Transportation Technology Services (TTS) working at the Vestas tower factory in Pueblo, Colorado, died as a result of an industrial accident. Vestas Towers America, Inc., would like to express our deepest sympathies to the worker's family, friends and colleagues at TTS. We are saddened by the news. Vestas and TTS are fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities regarding the investigation of this tragic accident.
