Mike Haviland introduced as CC Tigers hockey coach

Colorado College has a new burst of energy with a new coach who has quite a vision.

Several hundred fans, CC students, and others jammed inside the Tigers' El Pomar Athletic Center this afternoon. New Hockey Head Coach Mike Haviland talked about how CC is one of the top college hockey programs in the country. He envisions his team competing for national titles every year. Haviland said he was taken aback with all the CC support.

"I was kind of blown away," said Haviland. "It's amazing how many people showed up. It shows you how big CC hockey is and what it means to this community. If that's any indication, I'm really excited to get going here."

"We met coach Haviland, all the players, for about 20 minutes yesterday," said CC defenseman Peter Stoykewch. "We all left not wanting to leave the city here for the summer. Everybody wanted to stick around and train and go on the ice with him as soon as we could."

Haviland has over 20 years of coaching experience. He spent last season as head coach of the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Before that, he was an assistant with the Chicago Blackhawks and won a Stanley Cup Title in 2010.
