The top administrator at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo has resigned.

Dr. John DeQuardo has been superintendent of the Pueblo facility since the summer of 2007.

"I appreciate Dr. DeQuardo's work as CMHIP Superintendent, in particular his leadership over the past several months to guide CMHIP through successful completion of their most recent survey by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services," said Colorado Department of Human Services Executive Director Reggie Bicha.

Dr. DeQuardo will return to his clinical roots to provide psychiatric treatment to patients in the Admissions Unit of the Robert L. Hawkins Institute for Forensic Psychiatry.

Teresa Bernal has been named Interim Superintendent, until a permanent replacement for Dr. DeQuardo can be found.
