Went into the busiest emergency department in the state this morning, at Memorial Hospital, to see how their Trauma Team operates.

Memorial's central location gets around 100,000 visits per year, around 2,000 of those are admitted with a traumatic injury. The Trauma Team works with around 40% of those patients. They are activated for the sickest and most injured.

Today at the hospital they gave members of the media an inside look at a training drill. Doctors, nurses, emergency techs and others worked to stabilize very realistic computerized mannequins. The mannequins breathe, have a blood pressure and can demonstrate other bodily functions.

The team first worked on a child, burn victim; and in their second exercise worked on an adult, gun shot wound victim. Those leading the exercise say that both went well, more to come tonight on News First 5 at 5:00.
