Means, five others, earn all-Colorado honors from National Football Foundation

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force senior linebacker Alex Means was named National Football Foundation-Colorado Chapter (NFFCC) defensive player of the year, according to a vote of sports information directors from 10 institutions in Colorado. Means was joined on the all-Colorado first-team by senior running back Cody Getz, senior offensive lineman Jason Kons, senior linebacker Austin Niklas and senior safety Brian Lindsay. Senior offensive lineman Jordan Eason was a second-team selection.

Means is second on the team and ninth in the conference in tackles with a 7.4 per-game average. He leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 11.0 tackles for loss and has two interceptions and nine pass breakups. Means ranks in the top 10 in the conference in four categories: tackles for loss (11.0, 7th); tackles (7.4, 9th), tackles by linebackers (7.4, 7th) and passes defended (.92, 8th). Means played one of the best games of his career vs. New Mexico with 10 tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup and a 56-yard interception return for his first-career touchdown. He also made a tackle on fourth-and-four to force a turnover on downs on New Mexico's last drive. Means earned Mountain West defensive player of the week honors for his efforts vs. the Lobos.

Air Force qualified for a bowl game for a school-record sixth straight season in 2012. The Falcons take on Rice in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons finished the season 6-6 and placed fourth in the Mountain West Conference with a 5-3 mark.
