McInnis: Tax hikes not the answer for Colorado budget

GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis says Democrats who propose taxing candy and soda to help balance the state budget are cremating jobs, not creating them.

McInnis spoke Monday at a Denver plant of The Pepsi Bottling Group, which says it could lose jobs if customers have to pay more for soda. The Pepsi Bottling Group has been e-mailing employees about the tax proposal and encouraging them to write to state lawmakers to oppose it.

McInnis says Republicans support balancing the budget by reducing spending and by rewriting oil and gas industry regulations. He says rules rewritten under Gov. Bill Ritter's watch are keeping industry jobs away.

His speech didn't address how reduced spending might affect jobs.
