May Day mine gets conditional approval

HESPERUS, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety is recommending a conditional permit to operate the May Day gold and silver mine that is drawing flak from opponents.
La Plata County Commissioner Wally White called the state
officials' recommendation Tuesday a big mistake.
According to the Durango Herald, state and local officials have found several official violations and imposed fines against the owners in the past few years. Representatives for Wildcat Mining Corp. did not return calls for comment Tuesday
