Medical marijuana rally against proposed Colorado law is happening at noon on the west steps of the capitol.

Advocates for medical marijuana say House Bill 1284 is really aimed at disrupting the will of the voters, and could even force some patients back on the streets to buy marijuana from illegal suppliers.

Patient groups say the bill would limit people's right to use the drug. It would not allow patients to use marijuana withing 1000 feet of a school. Medical marijuana advocates say that would make it illegal for an untold number of patients to use the drug inside their own homes.

News First 5 is talking with a board member for the group Sensible Colorado, which won a lawsuit against the state health department to stop the 5 patient limitation and opened the floodgates for the opening of dispensaries happening currently. He says they want the government to regulate the industry and he believes Colorado Springs could set the tone for future legislation int he state.

That stories will be posted here later and be seen on News First 5 tonight.
