Manitou Springs voted tonight to impose a local 5% sales tax on recreational marijuana by a nearly two to one margin.
That's if the city decides to sell marijuana within the city limits. This will be in addition to a 25% sales tax imposed by the state.
Manitou city leaders say the local 5% tax will likely go toward much needed repairs and flood mitigation. Manitou Springs imposed a moritorium on the decision to allow retail marijuana until December 31st, 2013. A decision will not be made on the issue until January at the earliest.
