Manitou fire museum to open this weekend

The Manitou Springs Fire Museum will open Saturday, May 29. The Museum is located on the 1st floor of the Miramont Castle, 9 Capitol Hill Avenue in Manitou Springs. Admission is free to all active duty military and only $8 for adults which include both the fire museum and castle tour.

"This museum represents a wonderful collection a fire memorabilia not only locally but across the globe." says Steve Schopper, Foreman for the Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Saturday, May 29th at 9 a.m. on Memorial Weekend marks the grand opening of a museum-within-a-museum, featuring antique and vintage fire department equipment from around the Pikes Peak region. There is also a fitting firefighters 9/11 tribute along with a display of pristine Smokey Bear memorabilia from the 1950's.

The museum's hallmark is an antique hose cart, the oldest piece of fire apparatus registered with the Colorado State Firefighters Association, owned by the MSVFD since 1880. Fascinating authentic memorabilia and photographs of a bygone era surround it. Admission to the Fire Department Museum is included in admission to the Castle.
