Man uninjured after boulder hits car on highway

A Grand Junction man has escaped injury after a 3-foot boulder struck his car in a slide that happened near the same location of a massive rock slide that damaged Interstate 70.

The Colorado State Patrol says 53-year-old Kurt Kuxhausen was able to drive his car home after the boulder punctured the rear passenger side of his car Thursday afternoon. Officials say the rock fell from an area just below where 20 boulders slid onto I-70 in Glenwood Canyon, punching holes in the highway on March 8. No one was hurt during that slid but transportation officials closed a 17-mile stretch of I-70 for about three days.

Repairs are under way on that section of the highway. The work includes bridge deck and wall repairs, plus repairs to guardrails, a median concrete barriers, and lighting.
