Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 20400 block of County Road 2 on Sunday shortly after 1:00 p.m. on a possible shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies were told that a few people had been cleaning some guns. The victim, Reid Potwin, 18, was accidentally shot in the leg, Zachary Clay, 21, who manipulated the slide of a .40 caliber pistol to clean it. He stated when he did that, the gun "went off" hitting Potwin. Witnesses on the scene were interviewed and confirmed that this was indeed an accidental or negligent discharge. Reid Potwin was flown to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and was treated and released with superficial injuries to his leg.
Both Clay and Potwin are stationed at Ft. Carson, and the case will be reviewed for possible charges. No alcohol was involved in this incident.
