Man shot after escaping handcuffs and attacking Denver officer

DENVER (AP) - Denver police say one person is dead after a shooting involving an officer.

The shooting happened after officers arrested a suspect in east Denver on suspicion of a drug charge and a weapon charge.

Police say an officer was taking the suspect to a police station for further processing when the suspect got out of the handcuffs and attacked the officer. Another officer came to help, and the suspect was shot during a struggle. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.

It wasn't immediately known who fired the fatal bullet. The shooting is being investigated.

Names of those involved weren't immediately released.
