GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A 27-year-old Windsor man accused of severely abusing his 5-month-old son has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The Greeley Tribune reports Jonathan Higgins was sentenced Friday for felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. He has been in custody since his arrest last May.
Windsor police were called to the Poudre Valley Hospital on May 24 to investigate after the boy was brought in with several bruises on his body and six broken ribs in various stages of healing. The infant also had significant amounts of fluid in the brain.
Investigators say Higgins initially acknowledged he might have caused the injuries when he placed his son in bouncy seat in a rough manner, but he later said he couldn't explain how the boy was injured.
