Man facing 1994 murder charge loses appeal

DENVER (AP) - A man now accused of a 1994 slaying has lost his latest bid to overturn his conviction for a 1989 murder in Fort Collins.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday refused to allow Douglas Thames' appeal. He's serving a life prison sentence for the 1989 slaying of Susan Doll of Fort Collins. Thames now faces murder and sexual assault charges in the 1994 rape and murder of Jacie Taylor of Palisade. On Monday, Robert Dewey was freed after new DNA testing pointed to Thames, a former neighbor of Taylor, as the suspect.
Among Thames' claims are that police conspired with a lab to falsify evidence.
In refusing to hear his case, the appellate court says Thames did not present any evidence that would prove his claimed innocence.
