A man died Tuesday after firing shots at a police station in McKinney, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reported a local official as saying.

"A suspect is dead," said McKinney city spokeswoman Anna Folmsbee. It was not clear if the man killed himself or was shot by police.

Other reports said a second man was later taken into custody.

A pickup truck was reportedly on fire and riddled with bullet holes outside of the police station and city hall. The vehicle was said to contain ammunition, which began exploding.

An alert issued by the McKinney Police Department said, "Suspects possibly set truck on fire to draw people out of building" and used a semi-automatic rifle "to shoot out front of building."

It was not clear if any officers were hurt in the shooting.

The McKinney campus of nearby Collin College was briefly locked down, and students were told not to come to class.
