DENVER (AP) - A Portland man suspected of raping a 22-year-old woman at Denver International Airport has been charged with one count of sexual assault.
Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said Tuesday the charge was filed against 26-year-old Noel Bertrand.
Officials say the woman was assaulted just after midnight on April 12 after missing a flight. They say she met a man at an airport restaurant and was attacked at an empty gate.
Authorities say two airline employees on the tarmac saw the incident through a window and intervened.
Bertrand is being held on a $50,000 bond. His next hearing is Thursday, when a public defender could be named to represent him.
Prosecutors say Bertrand could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted and be denied parole under state sentencing structure.
