A Pueblo County man is being held without bond for Manslaughter after shooting a trespasser on his property near the southside landfill.

Dennis Pratt, 45, said he was hiding on his property in the 2100 block of Hog Farm Road, just west of Pueblo off Highway 78, with his two adult sons. He told deputies he believed someone had been coming onto his property for the past few days stealing radiators, batteries and copper worth thousands of dollars. He said he saw flashlights and fired off a shot from a 30-30 rifle to the left of one of the lights to frighten the person away. The bullet struck a second person who was standing to the left.

That person, a 20 year-old man, died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Manslaughter is a class 4 felony.
