A man in Canon City is in custody after the Fremont County Sheriff's office say he intentionally set a fire in the laundry room of a home while in a fight with his live-in girlfriend.

29-year-old Steven Patrick Collins was arrested Friday morning.

The Sheriff's office says Collins was in a fight with his girlfriend on the 1500 block of Willow Lane. Deputies say Collins was preventing his girlfriend from leaving by grabbing her wrists, throwing her purse on the roof, disabling her car, and taking her cell phone to prevent her from calling for help.

Eventually deputies say Collins gathered clothes in the laundry room/ kitchen-area, poured gasoline on them, and lit them on fire. Police say Collins did more than $1,000 worth of damage to the home.

Deputies say neither the girlfriend nor her three-year-old child were injured.

Collins is being held in the Fremont County Detention Center on a no bond hold. He's facing several charges, including a felony 1st degree arson charge, false imprisonment (felony), criminal mischief (felony), misdemeanor child abuse, harassment (misdemeanor), obstruction of telephone service (misdemeanor), and a domestic violence charge that could enhance any sentence if Collins is convicted.
