A man is in custody after trying to use counterfeit money at a Colorado Springs bar.

Police say they were called out around 1:30 Saturday morning to Copperhead Road on North Academy Blvd., near Rebecca Lane. Security guards detained a man they thought was using counterfeit money. They held him until police came; that's when they discovered there was more to the story.

"(Officers) Discovered approximately 800 dollars worth of counterfeit 20-dollar bills that he had in his possession along with some baggies containing suspected cocaine," said Sgt. Dennis Dougan with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

No word on how much suspected cocaine was found.

38-year old Robert Wade was taken into custody on a forgery charge, as well as intent to distribute a controlled substance. Wade was still in the Criminal Justice Center Saturday evening, with a bond of fifty-thousand dollars.

Police say the counterfeit money could also bring federal charges for Wade as well. They're still investigating where the counterfeit money came from and trying to figure out if this is part of a bigger ring.
