Investigators with the La Plata County Sheriff's Office have arrested a man they believe is connected to a shooting death from earlier this week.
A sheriff's office spokesman says Justin Wiese, 35, was taken into custody Friday at the sheriff's office, where he turned himself in after a judge signed a warrant for his arrest earlier in the day.
On Wednesday, deputies responded to a 911 call from the Wiese home which is located about 10 miles north of Durango. Public Information Officer Dan Bender says Wiese had called 911 to report finding the body of 42 year-old Darrick Zuber, a house guest, on the dining room floor. Officers took firearms and other items from the home as possible evidence.
Autopsy results indicated that Zuber died from a single gunshot wound and that the injury did not appear to be self-inflicted. No additional details have been made public as to where or how he was shot.
Wiese is being held at La Plata County Detention Center in Durango on charges of second degree murder, and tampering with evidence. Bond was set at $500,000. Anyone with related information in this case is asked to contact La Plata County Sheriff's Office Investigator Cody Story at 970-382-7020.
