Man arrested for allegedly threatening children with chains

A man was arrested after allegedly threatening to strangle children with chains in a school yard.

According to Colorado Springs Police Joey Perez, 18, of Colorado Springs, chased after children with chains at the Centennial Elementary in the 18-hundred block of S.Chelton Tuesday evening,  saying he was going to strangle them. When police arrested Perez he told police that he was defending himself from a man that was attacking him.

Police believed that Perez had been attacked by Juan Rodriguez, 53, who was also in the school yard. When police tried to contact Rodriguez, he reportedly took off, but was caught after a short foot chase.

Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of third-degree Assault of an At-Risk Adult and was booked into the El Paso County jail. Perez was arrested on Menacing charges.
