Man accused of sexually assaulting 7-year-old in 2006

Colorado Springs police say a 27-year-old man is facing a charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. The victim was seven-years-old at the time.

In November 2011, the CSPD Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating the sexual assault of a child. They were led to 27-year-old Ryan Cardman, who police say had sexual contact with a child multiple times between 2006 and 2007. Last week a search warrant was issued for Cardman's address in the 6000 block of Scottsbluff Drive. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Cardman was originally booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, but on Friday he was also charged with a felony for sexual assault of a child by one in a position of trust.

Cardman is scheduled to be in court on Monday.

Colorado Springs police say they're concerned that there might be more victims; if you have any information you're asked to call Springs police (444-7000).
