Lung scans for cancer have a high incidence of false positives. New research indicates that specialized blood tests should be performed in conjunction with the scans to prevent expensive testing and undue stress on the part of the patient.

UCLA researchers have created a blood test that looks for 40 biomarkers that signal whether or not a patient has lung cancer.

Results of the study were presented at AACR-IASLC Joint Conference on Molecular Origins of Lung Cancer.
