Lower gas prices a welcome sight during the holidays

As shoppers continue to crowd malls and spend money all over Southern Colorado, there's at least one welcome sight in some places, gas under $3.00 a gallon. "I just had a flashback because they had said that it would never go under $3.00 ever again." said Danny Trujillo as he was filling up, "I like this. I can live with that!" We found pumps as low as $2.90 and $2.98 on the west side of Colorado Springs.

It's a stark contrast from this summer when we saw gas prices well above $3.50 a gallon. Trujillo told us around the holidays, $2.90 a gallon is a welcome sight. "It's coming in handy. I started a new job 2 weeks ago so this is really coming in handy for me." he says.

Two Bears Chavez drove his family back home to Colorado Springs from Denver. When he saw gas prices here, he couldn't pass them up. "I couldn't believe when I looked at the gas prices it was $2.89. That's incredible!" he said.

It's not a total prices drop. Gas this holiday season is still more expensive than at this time last year, and about .50 cents higher than the same time 2 years ago. Still, both Trujillo and Chavez agreed it's nice to get a break during the expensive holidays. "The bottom line, you know... Wherever we can get help is welcome." said Trujillo. "Santa was here!" added Chavez with a laugh.
