The Denver Post reports that some Colorado industries hired workers in 2008 and 2009, when the state lost more than 105,000 jobs overall, but many of those new positions paid below-average wages.

The newspaper examined unemployment insurance reports filed by employers and found that of the 12 industries that added the most jobs, eight paid below the average annual wage of $46,813 for private-sector workers in the state.

The Post found that telemarketing centers and firms that care for the elderly and disabled added thousands of new jobs but paid average annual wages that were far lower than average for the state.
