While cities along Colorado's Front Range are baking in record-high temperatures, Loveland snowmakers are cooling their heels with their fingers on the start button.
The Loveland Ski Area saw the first snowfall of the season last week. Ski area employees took advantage of the cold and revved up the snowmaking equipment. But with a heat wave underway, the snowmakers are on standby.
Last year, Loveland was the first ski area in North America to open when it started its chairlifts Oct. 7.
