Inside the U.S. or out, it's a day for people to show some extra admiration to a special someone in their life.

On Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, Cheboygan State Park is hosting cross-country skiing on 1.8 miles of lantern-lit trails this evening.

Hundreds of working women in Ceredo and Kenova, W. Va., got an early Valentine's Day present from an anonymous donor. Someone ordered 335 roses from a florist and had them delivered around the two communities Friday.

For a more global view, there's Baghdad, Iraq, where the holiday is quite popular despite opposition by some Muslims who say it's un-Islamic. Shops were festooned with the sort of cuddly toys and
heart motifs available in any Western shopping mall or street -- a welcome respite from the city's frequent bomb attacks.

Even the polar bear at the zoo in Rochester, N.Y., got a Valentine -- a new mate. Aurora has been alone since 2008.
