Two local boxers from the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services' One Springs Boxing Program took home championship belts from the Colorado Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in Denver last Saturday.
Chris Galvadon, 123-pound champion, and Isaac Cardona, 152-pound champion, have been in the One Spring Boxing program for over five years each and have had great success inside and outside the facility. Galvadon is a senior at Sierra High School and Cardona graduated from Sierra in 2009. They will compete next in the Regional Golden Gloves competition on April 10th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Denver.
The One Springs Boxing program is a youth boxing program that teaches kids and young adults ages eight to 21 how to enhance their skills as boxers. The proper boxing technique and fitness regiment is honed into them by coaches Manny Martinez and Carlos Galvadon and a group of dedicated parents who come out nightly to support the program. This spring, over 40 youth have participated in the program and throughout the year over 100 youth will try their hand at boxing.
