Locally based chain celebrates two years and more growth

Yo Yogurt -- a frozen yogurt chain based in Colorado Springs -- is celebrating their second year in business.

"It is kind of hard to believe," says co-owner Nic Grzecka.

"It feels like yesterday when we opened," says Nic's sister; co-owner Elizabeth Johnson.

"We're still in the building stages so every year is an accomplishment," adds Nic.

Along with their other sister, Amanda Ralston, they got the idea for their new business while on a trip to California three years ago.

"(We) Realized there was nothing out here, and as soon as we saw two stores open in Denver we knew that was the moment," said Johnson.

They opened their first store near Powers and Stetson Hills, then another at Research and Union, another off Uintah on the west side of Colorado Springs, and a fourth one in Fountain on Mesa Ridge Parkway.

"When we started two years ago the goal was one," says Johnson

They started in a time when many people said it was a tough economy; a hard time to start a business, but they picked their product accordingly.

"Something that was affordable and people could do within their means," Johnson added.

The growth continued; the group just opened three more stores. These stores are in northern Colorado; expanding their base.

"Windsor, Fort Collins, and Loveland," said Johnson.

After anticipating only one store at the beginning but then moving up to seven locations just two years later, it's a lot to juggle. They started with four employees and now they're up to 60 or so.

"I'm excited for year three," said Nic.

Right now they're exploring plans for growth in the future.
