An El Paso County woman convicted of killing her 2-year-old foster child was sentenced to 32 years in prison Monday by Judge Larry Schwartz, who called this one of the most tragic cases he'd ever seen.

A jury convicted Jules Cuneo of Child Abuse resulting in death by a person in a position of trust, and Reckless Manslaughter in the death of two year old Alize Vick.

Alize died in October of 2007 from a brain injury. A video tape of questioning by investigators showed Cuneo saying, "I think that's where I threw her."

Monday's sentencing was emotional, with the child's natural mother too distraught to testify. Alize's maternal grandparents called her a beautiful, loving little girl whose death destroyed several families.

Friends of Cuneo testified that this action was completely out of character for the woman, and they still can't believe it happened.
