The next generation of astronauts may be heading to Mars, so the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs is looking to take them there ahead of time - this Wednesday.

The Foundation, along with support from local organizations, is opening the Space Foundation Discovery Institute next to Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy in Colorado Springs Wednesday. Students and teachers designed a room with Mars-like terrain; a local artist even designed a mural on the walls. Students will practice navigating robots through it and accomplishing missions. The Foundation hopes it will bring higher proficiency for students in technology, engineering, and mathematics. The project will initially be open to d-11 students, but will eventually open up to the public.
