Local shop offers spice of life

There was a time that ships sailed exploring new lands to bring back spices. Nowadays spice exploration happens in the kitchens of foodies.
There are a growing number of specialty stores helping with tastes you may not find on the shelf of a typical grocery store. It helps that there's a foodie trend with people reading magazines and watching shows where uncommon spices are part of recipes. Dick Frieg the owner of Savory Spice shop in Colorado Springs says, "People come in, they call and say, 'do you have this? Oh good I knew you would.'"
For foodies, spice adds adventure. "Just trying to get those subtle differences, the appreciation of subtleties, creation and all the great flavors that are out there," says Frieg.
