Local program gets White House attention

The Obama administration is taking a closer look at a Southern Colorado pilot program for combat soldiers transitioning to home life. A group from Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group just returned from The White House where they were invited to tell President Obama's Director of Veterans Affairs and Wounded Warrior Policy about the local Wounded Warrior Peer Support Program.

Whether post traumatic stress (PTSD) or just a difficult transition, the program offers established veterans to guide new veterans. Paul Sexton the COO of Pikes Peak Behavioral Health says, "If we provide a face instead of a telephone number, if we grab them by the hand instead of sending them just to a website, they are more successful in finding the resources they need."
