DENVER (AP) - The Colorado unemployment rate hit 9.1 percent in January, topping the U.S. rate of 9 percent.
That's up from 8.9 percent in Colorado a year earlier. The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said Thursday that almost 2.43 million Coloradans have jobs, down about 1 percent from a year earlier.
While Colorado's jobless rate has been rising, the U.S. rate of 9 percent is down from 9.7 percent from January 2010.
The non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate in El Paso County in January was 10.6 percent, up from 9.4 the previous month. Pueblo's rate jumped more than a point to 11.7 percent. Up from 10.3 in December.
