Local curling club ready for extra interest

"You drive forward and release the stone, explains Curling Instructor, John West, as he demonstrates how to put a curling stone in play" He will likely be doing a lot more teaching in the weeks ahead.

Curling is on the Olympic line-up in Sochi this week. Every four years the Olympics bring the sport of curling back into the spotlight. It generates new interest in the even though it is a sport dating back more than 500 years. The Broadmoor Curling Club ends up doing multiple workshops to teach all the people who want to know more about the sport.

It is typical for students to walk away from a curling clinic as dedicated fans.
"What we find almost universally is people come in with no real expectations and they leave with a respect for the sport and kind of a pride in having done it," said West.

The Broadmoor Curling Club has numerous curling workshops planned in the next couple of weeks. The club's webpage http://coloradocurling.org/ has the details.
