After the shooting in Connecticut, a local church decides they want to try to do something to help out.

That's when the folks at Wesley United Methodist Church in Pueblo got the idea for a gun drive.

They asked everyone to bring in guns they no longer need or do not want, and the police department took them in to destroy them properly.

They say it's a way to remove some guns from the streets.

"Why do we have to, over and over again, be victims when in fact there're things that we can do?" said Reverend Kim James. "There are things that we can do to make our world a safer place."

They collected seven guns and quite a bit of ammunition.

Although it's not much, they say they hope it helps.
