Local businesses recording big Valentine's Day sales

Everyone loves getting a present on Valentine's Day. Whether it's for a significant other or just to show a friend that you care about them, it's one of the biggest gift giving days of the year.

Three of the big ones are chocolate, candy, and flowers.

At Patsy's Candy in Colorado Springs, workers have been putting in extra hours to make sure there's enough chocolate to go around for all the customers.

"They've been coming in this week buying all kinds of chocolate and hearts," says Si Niswonger, co-owner of Patsy's. "You just know how many people are going to be happy on Valentines day."

Luisa Graff Jewelers says sales have gone up 40 percent this Valentine's Day over last.

Bridal jewelry has also been a top seller this time of year. The business says Valentine's Day is a popular time to get engaged.

Most importantly, if you've been slacking on your gift buying, many of these stores will be open on Valentine's Day for you to pick up last minute gifts.
