Returns, gift cards, and sales seem to be the objectives on most shoppers' lists the day after Christmas. Management at Chapel Hills Mall and Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs, and The Pueblo Mall all say foot traffic has been heavy. They're hoping for a strong finish to an up and down holiday season.
National projections look to be up from last year, making for a record; just days before Christmas, the National Retail Federation upgraded their outlook for this holiday shopping season by 3.8% to $469.1 billion. The increase rate is lower than last year's 5.2% gain though.
All three mall managers tell News 5 that an interesting trend they've seen this year is a resurgence of gift cards. At the Citadel they say they numbers for gift cards had dropped some in the last two years, but this year gift cards have come back strong.
We'll look into the numbers Monday evening on News 5.
