Nearly 5,000 feet beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, a black cloud of oil continues to spew from a ruptured well. Live video is available at several sites for those who want a look. Despite the somber subject, the technology is amazing.

BP is now burning some of the oil siphoned from its ruptured well. The company says it is part of its plans to more than triple the amount of crude it can stop from reaching the sea. BP hasn't said how much oil it has burned so far.

Marine scientists says wildlife in the Gulf is moving closer to shore to get away from oil-polluted waters. But gathering in the shallows could result in a lack of oxygen and food, and greater risk from predators. The spill is blamed for killing more than 1,100 birds, turtles and mammals.
