Long-time KOAA 5 News Anchor Lisa Lyden announced tonight her decision to leave at the end of July, after a KOAA career that spanned nearly three decades.
"This was not an easy decision to make," said Lyden. "I've been wrestling with it for some time, and feel now is the right time to hang up the microphone and spend more time with family."
"Lisa's contributions to this award-winning team ranks her as one of the longest running and best known broadcasters in the state", said KOAA President and General Manager Evan Pappas. "Although we will miss her, we respect this personal and professional decision. It's been an honor to have her with us for so long."
Lyden said, "I am so very proud and humbled by our accomplishments here at News 5 over the years and the support from my company, my co-workers and all of our wonderful viewers. Coming into your family room every night has been a joy and a privilege."
News 5's Jennifer Horbelt will join veteran Anchor Rob Quirk on News 5 at 5, 6 and 10 pm, beginning July 27th. Jennifer, a popular addition to News 5 Today, was the main anchor at the NBC affiliate in Kentucky, before joining News 5 in 2011.
"I think it is fitting that I'll be passing the torch, so to speak, to Jennifer on the opening night of the Summer Olympics. And for the first time ever, I'll get to watch the festivities from my couch at home." said Lyden.
"As for the future, I don't know what the next chapter will be for me," she continued "In the meantime, if you run into me around town this summer, don't be surprised to find me wearing a baseball cap and no makeup! I'll be trying to recruit Rob for a few games of golf too!"
