Football coaches at the Denver area Catholic high school Mullen may have violated state recruiting rules during Dave Logan's tenure as head coach.
A report leaked to the Denver Post Friday found the assistant coaches who worked under Logan improperly recruited players, misrepresented tuition obligations and conducted unauthorized fundraisers.
Logan was not directly named in any of the briefings about the investigation. The Broncos play-by-play announcer and talk radio host was fired by the school in January. He says his name is on all the headlines due to his celebrity and took to the airwaves Friday afternoon to fight what he calls a smear campaign.
"I think this is a shot below the belt and I think it's an intentional smear campaign and frankly I'm really disappointed with the two people that have headed this thing up at that school," Logan said.
Logan has since been hired as the head football coach at Cherry Creek High School. During Logan's 9 years at Mullen, the school won 4 state championships.
