Everest University Online is cutting 25 positions from its Education Service Center on Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs.
"The layoff was the result of investments in new information systems which allow us to perform certain administrative functions with fewer employees," explains Michael Mossman, a regional vice president and general manager for the university.
The online university moved a branch office into part of the old Intel manufacturing complex in March 2010. At the time officials told News 5 they were hoping to bring 600 jobs to Colorado Springs in the next couple of years.
"We remain fully committed to the Colorado Springs community and plan to remain in our current location," adds Mossman. "We currently employ nearly 400 people and look forward to serving even more students in the future."
Representatives for the online university say they don't anticipate decreasing staff any further.
