Layoffs at Macy's

NEW YORK (AP) - It's news that no employee wants to hear, especially as the new year begins. But 2,500 people are receiving layoff notices from Macy's.

The department store chain says the job cuts are part of a reorganization in order to sustain its profitability. The news comes on the heels of a strong holiday shopping season for the retailer, which also runs the higher-end Bloomingdale's.
