The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a serious accident that sent a 12 year old boy to the hospital in Pueblo County. The accident is being treated as a hit and run accident resulting in a vehicular assault charge involving serious bodily injury.
The accident occurred at around 11:00 P.M. about 11 miles East of Pueblo on Hwy 50 A 1991 Cadillac Deville was traveling eastbound when it collided with the rear of an eastbound 1947 Dodge pickup. After impact, the Dodge spun off the roadway and collided with a fence.
The Cadillac fled the scene, turning onto a nearby county road before colliding with a concrete retaining wall and becoming stuck. The Cadillac's driver then fled the scene of the second crash before Pueblo County Sheriff's Deputies located and arrested him at his residence.
The driver of the Cadillac is 31-year-old Vicente Codina of Boone, was wearing his seatbelt during both crashes and was not injured. The Dodge was not equipped with seatbelts being a much older model.
The driver of the Dodge truck is 24-year-old Justin Walden, and a passenger, 25-year-old Krystal Johnson, both of Boone, sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. The Dodge's second passenger, a 12-year-old male, sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.
All three occupants were transported to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo.
