AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Jacques Lamoureux recorded his third career hat trick and Stephen Caple posted a shutout in his first career start as Air Force erupted for a 12-0 win over American International College (AIC) in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Saturday, at the Academy's Cadet Ice Arena.
The two teams split the two-game series as Air Force earned its first win of the season and improved to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the AHA. AIC fell 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.
The 12 goals are the most scored by Air Force since at 14-2 win over Hamline in 1994. The school record for goals in a game is 16 vs. Stanford in 1972. The 12-goal victory margin ties as the most since that Hamline game.
Air Force out-shot AIC, 47-23, in the game. Caple, a junior from Rice Lake, Wis., made his first career start tonight and stopped all 23 shots he faced. AFA was 3-for-5 on the power play while AIC was 0-for-1.
Air Force is off next weekend. The Falcons are back in action on Nov. 5 when Air Force host Mercyhurst at 7:05 p.m. at Cadet Ice Arena.
