Lamar Police Commander wanted for felony theft

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Lamar Police Commander on a felony theft charge.

Edward Herrera allegedly took a water softener from a home he rented in the town of Wiley and sold it.  The theft and sale allegedly happened in January of 2011 and wasn't discovered by the landlord until last month.

Prowers County Undersheriff Ron Trowbridge said the water softener is worth just over $1,000, which makes it a Class Four Felony.

Trowbridge said Herrera or his attorney has been in contact with a prosecuting attorney from nearby La Junta.  He expects Herrera to turn himself in soon.  Herrera's wife is also charged with theft in the case.
