A rabies case out of Larimer County may serve as an important wake-up call for all pet owners.
9 News in Denver reports eight people, including five children are currently getting a series of shots for rabies, after one of their kitten's was found infected.
The kitten was born to a barn cat on Kristen Jacobsen's property, but was handled by Jacobsen's entire family.
She says she took the cat to the vet after it started acting strangely, and was shocked to find out it had rabies.
The health department says since the cat was not vaccinated, it was likely infected by a rabid bat or skunk.
They say it's an important reminder for everyone to make sure all of their pets have their shots whether they spend their time indoors or outdoors.
