COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 23, 2014) - For the fourth time this year and the seventh time in her brilliant collegiate career, Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golfer Leina Kim (So., Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marina Islands (CNMI)) has been named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
The award, which recognized the conference's top player for all action of the spring season thus far, came after Kim kept her season-long string of top-10 performances alive with 36-hole totals of 154 and 150 in the ThunderWolves' first two tournaments of the spring portion of the season.
On Feb. 17-18, Kim tied for eighth with a 36-hole, 2-day score of 154 at the St. Mary's (Texas) Lady Rattler Invitational in San Antonio. She then tied for second with a 36-hole total of 150 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic on Mar. 2 and 3. She posted an even-par round of 72 on the second day of that tournament.
She has now finished in the top 10 at all six tournaments of the 2013-14 season and has three par or below rounds while posting a 74.8 stroke average.
Named as the RMAC's Preseason Player of the Year, Kim earned the weekly honor for three consecutive weeks in the fall of 2013 as she won both of the RMAC fall events before finishing as the top overall finisher (T-7th) at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Pack have nabbed five of the RMAC's six weekly honors as Julie Sanchez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) received the Oct. 10 nod after winning the Lady Buff Classic, hosted by West Texas A&M on Oct. 7-8.
In 2012-13, Kim won three RMAC Player of the Week honors and was named as the conference's Golfer and Freshman of the Year while earning First Team All-RMAC, RMAC All-Tournament and Women's Golf Coaches Association All-West Region team honors while qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Division II National Championships.
The ThunderWolves have been off since the Las Vegas Classic but will return to action at the Mustang Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. next Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 30-Apr. 1)
