Keep trying to quit smoking

If your New Year's resolution is to quit smoking, you might do better if you accept the fact that you are likely to fail. That's according to Dr. Chetyl Healton of the American Legacy Foundation.

She says failures can become learning experiences on the way to quitting.

Writing down a few distractions can help, like exercising or calling a friend when you feel the urge.

Also, know that going cold turkey is almost impossible for many long term and heavy smokers. Behavioral counseling, medication, or nicotine replacement products might be necessary.
